300TDI Exhaust - What should I do
Hello all,,
My flexy joint is about to to let go so it's off the to exhaust joint for some tlc and i was wondering what else could be done while they are playing with her pipes
i have already removed the rear muffler with out much note change and after engineering i was told i cold play with the exhaust note a little as i was well under the limit. I was thinking maybe a straight though exhaust with a hotdog in the middle? would that make it to loud? or should I get a performance muffler in the center? I am after gains rather then loudness what do you guys think?

Well on my wagon i cut the main muffler out and fitted a hotdog in its place , Mine still has the resonator at the back soon to be replaced with a pipe
My mate has a Defender Tray with just a hotdog and you can talk in his Defender so im guessing in you Disco ute you will more than be able to talk at 100 kmh

If you still have the leftover rear muffler around, think about changing that over with the main muffler. Two reasons: 1. The rear muffler is a straight thru type, and 2. The LR pipe is metric - 60mm - whilst most of the exhaust places are still stuck on imperial ( 2.25 and 2.5 inch) pipe and more importantly, bending tools. I have a sports muffler with a 2.5inch system from the joint after the flex, and I find it OK. I'd say the hotdog alone would be too loud.

I've fitted 3" straight through, but used a large barrel type 'resonator' in the centre to deaden noise.
Probably a bit of an over kill, given it's only a 2.5 litre.......
But it's not loud and does spool up quicker. Sounds good, although it's no 6v53......
