    Pulley noise ????

Hi Guys , Thought i could hear a whirring noise coming from the engine (300tdi).So when i got home i lifted the bonnet and give the engine a rev and the noise is coming from the front of the engine . I looked at all the pulleys and nothing looks loose or wobbly . any idea what it could be ?

just a sujestuion not sure about 300tdi but when i had a cruzer the idler pully caused that type of sound as well as my timing belt when it neared the 100,000km pully replaced bearing about $5 this was far cheaper than a new one and changed timeing belt prob fixed.

x 2 on a Td5 engine. x 3 on a 300Tdi engine if you include the tensioner one which is the same size as the other two.

    Yeah wanna(nowgota)landy,

Start with the pulley bearings....Hard to find a 300 Tdi that doesn't sound like the chorus of canaries are having a good old sing-along

Just cause you can't see anything doesn't mean that it isn't.

Use a long screw driver as a stethoscope to narrow down the possibilities and if it is and if you are a half handy with your landy you can fix it for about $10 worth of part.

Heaps of posts/threads here on the subject available via the search function. (I must talk to the Common Threads Moderators about this).

Best dealt with early because if the bearing siezes then worse things can happen.
