    towing issues

i have purchased a ranger rover sports tdv8 for the purpose of towing a boat but the configuration of the genuine tow bar is too low. has any one had this problem? how can I get the trailer level without using an non genuine part? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im guessing you need to look to Hayman Reese or similar for a height adjustable hitch to replace the Landy hitch.
If the RRS hitch is anythink like the D3 hitch its an abortion of an idea

Mitchell Bros will modify the D3 one to fit a RRS. (they take off the recovery eye)
Looks good on a sport too. Especially if silver (it comes zinc coated). If you want you could paint it.
    Speak to Aaron.

Brings it to correct off road height but can be adjusted by fitting different tongues.

thanks guys i look into the mitchell bros today, don't you would think that rr should look at this as a real issue. it seems to be a problem that a lot of owners have or will have at some time.

Unfortunately, Australia is a small market for Landrover (and offroad towing is even smaller) and the company has a long history of ignoring Australian needs.

Totally agree, same with the wanting to go over 40kph in off road height when on long distance rutted tracks. Only needed in SA and Oz, so nothing will be done, except loosing sales to the Japs.

spoke to rr australia today, i can't say that I'm not surprised by there response "buy a new trailer or purchase a new car". to say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement but i guess they have my money. i have also spoken to Aaron at mitchell bros and he has been very helpful, however my main concern with using there towbar is any warranty issue that might arise.

I don't really understand your dissapointment.

LR have sold you a vehicle which complies with the ADRs (towbars are covered by that). They obviously can't modify the towing equipment away from standard, so the response you got is exactly what I would have expected.

It does appear that the aftermarket industry is catering for people who want to tow non compliant trailers and that is where you will have to go looking.

I would recommend that if you do alter the tow hitch, make sure the replacement one couples in to the towing / recovery point in the middle of the bumper. That would make it quite strong. I do recall stories of ML Mercs tearing the rear crossmember clear out with altered tow hitches.

LR do make an adjustable height towbar.
Have a llok on the DISCO3.CO.UK - Dedicated to Discovery 3 and LR3 Owners and Enthusiasts forum and search for adjustable tow bar.
You may need to get it sent from UK though.
LR would have to prove that the Mitchell Bros one caused the failure. It is engineeer certed and uses the existing tow points.
