hot water heat exchange in a disco.

I'm just about to fit a Helton Heat Exchange in my '95 Disco. They (Helton) generally recomend parallel installation. Can someone confirm if the heater water in a '95 disco flows all the time or does the flow vary based on the cabin temp knob settings? If the water flows all the time I fear that a parallel installation will not work too well.

If its a Tdi, the heater controls adjust flaps and the coolant flows all the time. If its a V8, the heater controls control flow of coolant through the heater.

yep it's a V8. so to clarify, if both temp dials are set to cool in the cabin, there is no water flowing????

V8 Engine: When both controls are in the cold
position, the coolant valve is turned off.

taken from RAVE, sec 80, description and operation, p3.

The vacuum controlled tap on top of the driver side rocker cover controls the water flow but it is only on/off. The flaps control the airflow for cabin temp.

So you will have to control coolant flow through the heat exchanger another way.

I don't need to *control* the flow through the heat exchange, I need to be sure that water *is* flowing through the heat exchange. Does the on/off valve have a flexible hose on the inlet side? If yes, i can 'T' in there. If no, then I guess I will have to put the heat exchange in series and forego some flexibility/ control possibilities etc.

OK, I will ask the silly question. What the FH is a Helton Heat Exchanger and what purpose does it serve?
