    D2 valve adjustments ??

    Hey Guys,

Have been having heaps of problems with my Gas system (installed by a very reputable melbourne company) underperforming on both power and economy and from around the same time the fuel economy has fallen away as well.

On gas my average is about 27 - 28L/100 !! and fuel isn't a heap better.

The system has backfired a total of about 5 - 8 times now as a result of the faulty system.... is my MAF going to be screwed ??

Also i was under the impression that the valves on the D2 could be adjusted, but the gas mech guys have advised they are hydraulic and cannot be adjusted ?? When it's running on fuel and you stand behind it, it smells like it burning all the fuel..... what could this be if its not the valves closing properly ??

    thanks guys

I'd be going back to whoever installed it if this is a recent installation.

If you have had it backfire 5 or 6 times then i would imagine the MAF would be knackered, maybe even the air filter too, but a knackered MAF will give you crap economy.

As for the valves, i was under the impression that they are adjustable, just very time consuming too do (read PainInTheArse)

I'd be surprised if its valves....

They have hydraulic lash adjustment and unless noisy wont be your issue..

One sticking open is possible with Rover V8s... But she'll stumble...

Poor mixture is the prime reason for backfire, and poor spark also is possible..

Those backfires have killed Your MAF....

Which gas system have you gone with? Sounds like a 'cowboy' installation unfortunately...

Some of these gas installers really dont understand what they're doing or dont tune the mapping of modern solonoid injected gas systems and just get it wrong!

Take it back, tell them to fix it....

I'd be curious to know who this "reputable" Melbourne installer is.....

What system do you have and is it sequential vapour? I have just been thru 5 weeks of having no car to drive as gas installation was installed and wired incorrectly by installer.

Oh yeh - MAF will be rooted!! I've done 2 in 5 weeks as result of backfires. It will need to be replaced once the problem is sorted.

Thanks guys, yea i thought the MAF would probably be dead by now which is why it's getting **** economy on fuel.

It was converted nearly 2 years ago but has been back and forth with problems since the system was about 6 months old !!

It's a venturi system (at least they used an IMPCO mixer !!)

will insist on a new MAF i think.

This is the ridiculous part...... at one stage i offered them $1,000 to fit the sequential system to put the problems to bed and be done with it ........ they said 'no that shouldn't be neccesary we'll get it right' ....... that was about 3 visits ago !!
