    I melted (and I mean melted) ALL of my transfer case gears in my LT230 behind my 200tDi in the NT a few years ago (93 Defender). As such I'd fully recommend the idea behind monitoring the transfer case. I find with my vehicle that the transfer case gets a lot hotter than the transmission (remember that they are only air-cooled).

    One point to think about though - one of the biggest problems with the LT230 is when the centre diff lock is not set up correctly - it promotes higher temperatures than necessary.
