The cable has stretched and MUST be replaced asap.... otherwise its a major PITA to get it open.
In the mean time, get someone to press down on the bonnet when you open it to reduce the load on the cable...
But,
REPLACE THAT CABLE ASAP.....![]()
1. My 1999-2000 Disc II V8 has spat the dummy wrt the bonnet cable. Today I tried to open the bonnet with the lever and for the life of me the bonnet wouldn't open. Only after I levered it the passenger handle and then attached a grip on remaining cable under glovebox etc could I get the last 2 mm to open the bonnet...... What happens if the thing breaks altogether? Is it still possible to get teh bonnet open??? Is it difficult to replace the cable in toto? Where are cheapest supplies?
2. I also manage to crack the special wheel nut key that fits over the locker nuts not on the wheels. I thought I just might get normal nuts for my car.... again where are best sources for over parts??

Take your old cable to a bike (bicycle or motor) and have them knock you up a stronger (beefier) cable, Regards Frank.

i replaced all the lock nuts on the road wheels but left the spare. i though the spare is easier to pinch than a road wheel & also less chance of breaking the tool as it is not done up as tight
got the nuts from a wreckers
cheers
I just replaced the spring in the bonnet catch mechanism with one which has less tension. Much easier to open and close the bonnet now.

I found with mine that I had to undo the catch mechanism from the body then give the cable a clean and spray with Lanotec to lubricate it and let the oil run down the inner cable. I didn't have to remove mine from the car as this fixed it as dust had worked its way into the bonnet catch and cable.
As LSBob said, maintenance is the key here, if you keep the lube up to the cable and mechanism (one a year is fine) make sure you spray it into and down the cable, and you shouldn't have any probs, but you let it go and the cable stretches and you end up where you are now. Not sure why the Landy bonnet cables need more loving than other makes, guess one of those querky Landy thingys.
Noticed some wheel nuts on ebay last night, may be worth a look.
cheers
