    Tyre preferences on D2

What do your gurus think are the best tyres suitable for a fairly sedentary D2 - most times country roads, occasional foray in tiger country? Size and sources?

Legal Diameter or just slightly over?

If you want to go to a 32, I'd say 265-75-16, ATZ, FCII, Silent Armour or the like...

    Personally I like Pirelli Scorpion A/T. 245/75

Have just fitted my second set. 110,000km out of the first.
Not as aggresive as some, but rated 50/50 road/offroad.

Also did well in a magazine's (can't remember which one) punture resistance comparison.

depends on size you want as wellas what type of driveing u are going to do

i run bfg a/t 245/70 r16...done over 70000ks heaps to go.done cape ,simpson trips & many ks totering around paddocks shooting...never had a puncture...seem to handleblacktop well as well...are badly chipped from dirt rds but doesnt seem to affect performance.

i rotate them every 10000k...this is important with any tyre& of course check pressures regularly

    cheers

It's currently got michelin synchrones which came with vehicle. Pretty useless for anything with steepness or greasy. I'm guessing that because I spend a lot of time on the blacktop that an A/T would be best - I like the look of the BFGs (as well as the pirellis) - look like have a bit of grip on them. Are they very noisey on the blacktop and do they hang onto it well?? Last disco I owned had cooper STT which although great for 4wding were pretty useless on wet blacktop.

find the bfgs not noisy at all,in fact they are a lot quieter than a well worn set of xpc's
as for hanging on on the blacktop....never had any worries...then i am no peter brock.

they seem excellent in the mud&also good in the sand, though if it is real soft have to let pressures down to around 18-20 psi

    cheers

    Hi Dino29,
If you have the 7" wide rims on your D2, find a set of BFG A/T's but if you have the 8" rims the BFG's are not available (in legal diameter) so I'd be getting a set of General Grabber AT2's 255/65/R16's as I did 4 months ago. Still happy with them, very capable off road, good grip on the wet bitumen and very quiet.

Have a look at the thread for some more info, post #25 shows pics of what I bought.

Thumbs up Mud Tyres All The Way

    Hi,
for my 2 cents worth I have had about 6 sets of BFG Mud Terrain tyres and have got 80,000km plus from them all. They are not that noisy especially in a super quiet vehicle like a disco.

They grip fantastically wet or dry. When I have driven on All Trains on a wet road I could only describe them as feeling like slicks and all they wanted to do is aquaplane felt bloody dangerous.

If it was me; I have 265/75 BFG Mud Terrains; have had Goodyear MTR and as things change would now buy Mickey Thompson MTZ's. From all reports they are great. Would never consider an all terrain from my experiences. With a mud terrain best of all when off road you will have GRIP.

    Cheers

I have Mickey Thompsons (Dick Cepek) FC II.

Excellant tyre. Bag out well on the sand and also good in the mud.

    I went 265/75 x 16.

Have 2 inch lift. Does not scrub at all.

    Would get them again.

    Dave
