    Lucas, Prince of Darkness

Lost all sidelights, rear lights and head lights simultaneously on my 110. Gratefully I was going slowly through the hairpin bends approaching Halls Gap.

Main beam works on flash mode.

Hazards, indicators and my top light bar works ok.

    Any thoughts guys?

It is dark and raining here at Halls Gap!

My guess is the light stalk has gone kaput or is there a big connecting block which has fallen apart????

    Regards

    Brendan

    A Ser3 with coils
Youve guessed it its the hi/lo beam indicator thing!!!
Custom designed for the Ser3 copied by later models.
    About $80 for a newie.
You fitted bigger bulbs by any chance???
All the load for the lights is drawn thru the switch which eventually burns it,bigger bulbs speed it up.
See Drivesafe on here.He has an easy diy upgrade that will swap your headlights over to direct battery draw via relays. The new switch you need will only draw a "trigger" feed thru it so no longer will overheat.
D2s are the same,Ive fitted the combined headlight/drivinh light upgrade to mine.WOW
    Goodluck

    leeds,

You will need to go to the Kookaburra in HG for dinner. Just say to Von you know someone from Queenscliff & all be good.

if you want some 'different' places to have a look at in the Grampians pm me and I'll give you some.

It is my other backyard, complete with pet wallaby and old 'graffiti'.

    You will need maps.

    cheers, DL

Just been there for dinner! LOL

Most of staff had escaped through back door as it was a quiet evening. Lady at bar made me a couple of spinach crepes though. Now back in motel with a couple of beers.

Question is do I need a LR part or will any old switch do?

Spend the day driving in the Grampians. Last track was Hines track ???? steep and rocky. Clay over the rocks. Got close to top and was slipping on some rocks. Was considering what to do, ie lower tyre pressure when noticed light was failing. Multi point turn and back down track.

Lucas struck about 5 kms from HG in the hairpin bends. Good job I was going slow as it was sudden and total light loss! Top light bar and hazards got me into HG. First building I notice was cop shop. Gratefully they were all busy having cups of tea and biccies!

    Regards

    Brendan

    Hi Brendan,

Sorry to hear about the electrical woes. Please check your voicemail (I left a message)- If you're staying in the area, I will be within 137km tomorrow early morning. (Maryborough) Let me know if you want me to get the part today.

Otherwise I can arrange to post one to a nominated address.

    - are all the fuses okay? remove & replace the headligh one, incase it looks ok but is a dud, just to confirm.

    - I had a similar issue recently, and the plug at the back of the fuse box that the fuse plugs into had pushed back. The bolts holding the fusebox to the firewall have nuts on the engine bay side, remove the nuts first, or tuo will break the 10mmm bolts.

    - do the dash lights work?

    - the steering colum surround takes 5 min to remove and access the switch. you can test it with a test light or multimeter.

    G'day Brendan!
Hope you are allright with a few beer cans left...
Anyway, if I were you I'd consider and check the wiring loom as well. I had a similar prob on my SIII (not to mention the TR) and in both cases the culprit was the wiring harness.
Good luck and don't jump with the 'roos!

    Cheers
    Johannes

Brendan checked the wiring prior to confirming the order. The switch was partially melted at the back . The headlights would probably benefit from an aftermarket relay upgrade.

Unfortunately I won't get there now till late afternoon / evening (the cheaper priced part arrives at noon), so I really feel sorry for Brendan losing a whole day.

G''day Brendan, bad luck regarding the switch, we have a farm about 35 km west of you. Sounds like you were 5 or 6 km's from my back paddock if you were on Hines track. I have some switches that could be used as a temporary repair if it would be of help. Phone number is 53801520. Located at Glenisla
