    3 Amigos DiscoveryII

Hi We have had the 3 amigo lights (ABS, TC and HD) on for about 6 months... after the front left wheel went into a ditch while driving about 3km/hr, just getting closer the the letter box to get the mail!!! and the lights came on with a ding!

After reading about the 3 amigos and how common it is, we have just ignored them.

Now the disco is due for rego and they wont pass it...

    Any suggestions????

You may simply need to get the fault codes cleared by a dealer or service centre with the software. The other thing is to check the wheel sensors (they are a pressure fit) and make sure they are clean and the wires to them are OK. Search the forum, there is a heap of information on this topic.

Get them cleared, it may only have been the shock of the bump that caused this and there's nothing actually wrong.

Also put your location up the corner where your join date is, if you don't know how PM Incisor and he will help, it always a help to know where you are so members can direct you to someone that can help.

OK i found this, he isn't a repairer, i think this was where the old dealer used to be, it may be a panel beater but he may know where you can take your car.

    Just fixed mine

Ok I just fixed mine. First off get someone with the diagnostic computer to check which sensor is playing up. It will come up with something like this

"REAR RIGHT SENSOR OUTPUT INTERMITTENT .FAULT LOGGED" or

"PUMP RELAY OPEN CIRCUIT. FAULT LOGGED"

These computers cost around $50,000 so most guys charge around $50 cash to put it on.

Once you know which sensor is playing up order the part ,now there are several different types. The original rears have a short lead and plug in at the wheel arch. A new type has a longer lead that runs all the way back to your computer. This new type is supposed to stop the faults but is a lot of work to fit and costs around $60 more.

I opted for the original type that plugs in at $250 . I got mine from the guys that took over from Brit Parts in welshpool and are just around the corner.

Now only problem is they gave me the wrong one (bugger) which I didnt relise until I was trying to fit it ( they actually gave me a front one which has a longer lead).

Never mind the front one also fits the rear just have to coil up some extra lead.

To fit(1)remove the road wheel (2) take off the disc brake assembley 2 bolts (3) remove the brake rotor 1 big phillips head screw (4) remove sensor using allen key (5) replace sensor plug in and put everything back on .

Very easy takes around 20 mins while sipping on a coldy.

Now my lights ( three amigos ) dont reset themselves so I have to go back to a guy with a computer to have them turned off.

This is the second one I have replaced first the left rear and I watched closely how to do it. Then the right rear which I just did myself.

I did read that you can clean them etc I tried it got the lights turned off and a few days later they came back.

At the same time as I replaced the sensor I also did the rotors and pads .

I have done a few hundred ks since used traction controll ABS and downhill decent and the lights are staying off.

    MIKE
