    TD5 power loss - Help

Hi all, Just about to start a journey today - TD5 vibrating and "missing" under load. More prominent as speed increased at 80km and above - shuddering and unable to accelerate to speed limit. Revs quite freely and normally in neutral so not sure if problem in transmission (auto) or engine (injectorr and or harness). Auto overhauled and serviced less than 10000 kms ago. Anu suggestions would be appreciated.

Pull the plugs off your ECU, I'm betting harness...

If no oil, I'll post more.

Thanks for the help, checked the front propshaft about 1-1.5 cm play in rotation. Nil rotation in rear. Noticed oil around the diff end but dry at gearbox end. I had always thought that my disco was noisy from 80 - 100 klm per hour could thiis have been caused by the propshaft as well?? I will check the ECU in the morning and then off my mechanic.

is that rotation coming thru from the diff or transfer case though? that play is similar to what i have. the play thats definately bad in the shaft is in the 2 uni joints that are at the transfer case end. hold it either side of these 2 joints and see what play there is then. up/down, side to side and twist.

Probably had the handbrake on if the rear didn't rotate.

You're looking for movement in the uni-joints. They shouldn't click or move at all. It is a simple fix to install the new bits if you have a shop-press (or even a good vice will do) and quite cheap.

Unable to get any other movement in the propshaft - Had to watch my D2 tilt trayed to the mechanic (bit strange since it starts and runs perfectly except under load). Not worth the risk in driving and sustaining more damage. I am a little suspicious of the auto clutch pack failing - will just have to wait and see what my mechanic can come up with. Thanks all for your posts. I will let you know the outcome and financial pain.

I would bet on oil in the harness. Probably only at the engine end. When mine started it was hammering like one of the wheels had gon out of round. Mine started at 3am on a long trip. Had to get from just outside Sydney to Stockton and then Lithgow by 9am so didn't sort it properly till we reached lithgow.

Thanks all the culprit was a dead fuel pump - zero pressure, Oil was found in the harness and ECU noe cleaned. All back to normal - except the depleted holiday funds.
