If battery is 2 1/2 - 3 yrs old..
I'd say its on its way to Calcium Heaven

i think its more like the original... and its a 2002

The drain from your trailer lights may well be a lot more than you think - try adding them up. But having said that, if the battery is five or six years old, that is the obvious suspect. Just make sure the belt driving the alternator is not slipping, but in view of the battery's age, I think that is the culprit.

Before you fork out wads for a new battery try some Inox battery conditioner, stick it on charge for a few days and see hpw it comes up, I got an extra 18 months out of a 3 year old battery that I thought was Cactus, Regards frank.

Thanks John... i guess the alternator light would be on also if it was slipping... im guessing the battery is on the very last legs and keeps enough charge to crak it to start, as it does start first flick.. with the early morning drive to the station of a whole 5 mins with lights on... im guessing im hardly putting much charge back in... but also having had the long run at the weekend.. it should have enough in it not to go flat that quick.. i did notice the lights flicking a bit tho when i was reversing the car back... only the occasional dip... but still noticable? anyone else had this?

Thanks Frank but at 6 yrs old.. i may give the thing a rest.. plus we are on a long trip this weekend.. and i dont want it failing on me! i dont have the luxury of dual batteries yet... but have the controller etc ready to go...

Hi Steve
Better still,get a CAT battery from Westrac.They do a 1000CCA that will fit in the originals place(slightly bigger in size but goes in OK).Plus its a battery designed to live in earthmoving equipment so they are tough.
You will find the CAT 1000CCA is about the same price as good brand heavy duty 750CCA.
See Westracs website for the part nos.
Ive got a secondhand CAT battery in mine (800CCA I think),did 4 years in a grader and now 2 in mine.Has been very good but is due for replacement,can flaten it letting the fuelpump time out 3 or 4 times whilst working on the car with the ignition on.
Others on here also use CAT batteries in their D2s.
Pedro,find your state Distributor for CATERPILLAR parts,you will be happy with the battery.

Thanks Andy... maybe next time.. or for my second battery.. had to get it today so went to supercharge, all up $190.. and its a 950cca with 200minute RC same size as original too.. so not bad..
