    D3 TDV6 electrics fried - help please!

Hi - a friend of mine decided to reduce D3 servicing costs by taking to a new place in Canberra instead of Rolfe. They tried to search for fault codes using apparently pirate software and the end result is that the vehicle is snafooed and now back with Rolfe who are indicating it's not a warranty issue as someone else has played around with it (which is fair enough I guess). My question is whether it's possible to completely stuff things just by hooking up to a computer - i.e. surely Rolfe can just reset everything? It's been with them for over a week, so they seem to be indicating it's more complicated than that???

I would imagine that hooking up anything to a D3 would be risky. Even the genuine equipment can cause grief if there's a glitch during a download.

I would say that the entire 'system' needs to be rebuilt. All going well, this can take several hours. If it doesn't go well, then it can take several days to get it right, providing that nothing actually needs replacement.

The person concerned is a mate of mine and after lots of sledging about him getting rear A/C in his luxobarge D3 for his dog, this issue is a worry and is a lesson for people who own modern landies and choose to get work down on their vehicles outside the Landrover dealer network.

I am not commenting on the service provider as I have been previously warned that any negative threads concerning this service provider may invoke legal action against AULRO and as a result any such posts will be removed.

So don't mention the service provider.

It is still not clear on who or what has actually caused the problem in the first place. Was the problem caused by the computer being plugged in or is Landrover using this as an excuse to dodge a legitimite warranty claim? At this stage - whole knows.

However the owner has been told that the two service providers will most likely sort it between themselves and the owner should not have to meet the cost of repairs.

Lets hope this is the eventual outcome. This is the guy's first landrover and I know he thinks they are a great car and it does get used as it was designed - lets hope this does not sour the views of a convert.
