My fix for the D2 3 Amigos
To cut a long story as short as possible...appologies for not posting this sooner but I wanted to be sure I had it fixed.
Phoned MR Automotive up at Redcliffe QLD 07-3284-6688. They have an "ABS Modulator Overhaul Kit" LR Part# SWO500040. The kit includes shuttle valve bits and pieces as well as a new electronic control module. Kit costs $1500 and has a 12month warranty (I think - not sure maybe the NZ one is 12 and MR is 24 - they can confirm this anyway).
Found out there is also a mob in NZ (not the fleecy kind
) who actually repair these units and manage to somehow remove the black resin looking stuff, repair the whatever inside and seal it all up again with some new resiny stuff.
Anyway after much agonizing I bit the bullet because all diagnostics to that point all pointed to the ABS and the problem was really getting to me.
So this work was carried out mid April this year and to date no problems. I have a feeling that there might have been a batch of faulty modulators and I'm certain that mine has been replaced under warranty before although anything electric sitting in close proximity to heat from a turbo-charger is bound to fail sooner or later methinks. Jason at MR seemed to think it was not a heat issue otherwise LR would have done something about it by now if it was? Even still I am toying with the idea of some sort of heat shield because it seems to me that it could get rather hot and prolonged heat may be the key to failure over the longer term.
Anyway that's my story. There was/is nothing wrong (touch wood) with the wheel sensors, wiring loom, connectors. It would have to have been bloody expensive too. Typical but I suppose but that's the joy of it all hey?
Cheers
Peter
PS was also able to obtain the old faulty modulator and plan on pulling it apart to see how it works and maybe find the fault. Will post pics when I get around to it.
