hey everyone...as i have just bought a 300Tdi 130 (sold the Td5110) i was just wondering what causes the 300Tdi to blow a head gasket ?...i know the td5 would blow a head gasket because the head is set on an angle and it would track down overtime causing the gasket to leak....just want to know what to look out for so i can prevent it happening...
Thanks

Diesels have high compression for obvious reasons.
Petrol motors don't
That is why I have a V8
Not problems no hassels
The most likely reason for head gasket failure is overheating. Especially if the head and the block are manufactured of different materials, e.g. aluminium/cast iron or similar.
Another reason is a possible damage done during building/rebuilding the engine or changing the gasket when putting the components together.

I had mine go after the mechanic blew a hole in the waste gate actuator can (he shorted the starter motor terminals during installation and it blew a 5mm dia hole in the rear of the can) - so I had no waste gate. I drove it like this unknowingly for 8months before the gasket blew. When I realised the problem I put a turbo boost guage on and discovered it was hitting 25psi of boost at wide open throttle !!! So I'm amazed the gasket lasted so long!
Rick130's thread is a pretty good start.
change head gasket on Tdi @ 240k as a preventative ?
Cheers
Simon
Mine has done 230 ks and im not about to change the head gasket because it might blow
I find all this should i change head gasket preventative measure a joke , If your going to do that why not change your gearbox, tcase, diffs, brakes, suspension ,ect, ect, ect, ect before they blow![]()
thats odd..
I change gearboxes, brakes axles and diffs before they break...
