What type of probe for a Egt gauge on a 300Tdi do the experts suggest

Im looking at a gauge at the moment that comes with a K type probe and it looks very short , in the specs it says its a basic type probe (K)

All the probes are industrial type K. But there's a variation in the probe size, thinner ones react faster.
Get some industrial mini-k-type plugs so you can easily unplug it when needed. They're also the correct materials so they don't create "cold junctions".
