02 Disco Convertion Auto/Gas to Diesel- Isuzu 4JJ1X Engine

    Aloha!

I have an 02 Disco with a blown head gasket and warped heads. This repair in Hawaii cost around 2,500 dollars . If I am going to invest that much into my Disco I figured a diesel conversion would be a better investment. After allot of research I am leaning towards an Isuzu 4JJ1X 3.0 liter engine. However, I can not find a conversion kit for this engine that will adapt to an automatic transmission. Does any one have any info that may help me? I would appreciate any advice.

There are conversion companies in the UK that do kits for the Isuzu to a ZF auto the problem you will find is that the ZF in your D2 is electronically controlled and you will need another electronic gizmo to control the auto.

Surely if he has already got the ZF auto - he will also have also have the electronics to make it work...........

If that Isuzu diesel is anything like the 4BD1 used in other rovers, then from what I understand the pulsing in the engine will make short work of your ZF.

I think the big problem is that all of the electronics interrelate in the D2 and it will be difficult to make it all talk properly to each other with an engine conversion - short of tearing it all out.

If it were me, I'd just get it fixed. There will be 11 billion less headaches and dollars.

I would have thought the biggest problem would be the ECU, i presume the izuzu engine comes with it's own ECU? How would this be integrated with the D2's eletrikery?

If it was a D1 for conversion yep go for it.But A D2 no way forget it.You will never sort the electronics.
Look into a new crate motor ex UK may be loads cheaper. Then look into a rebuilt monster V8,either ex USA/Aussie/UK.Arnt the US D2s 4.6L as per P38a Range Rovers??? We only got 4l V8s
I wouldnt touch that 3l isuzu DOG.We have them here, lots of issues with them, the 2.8 with the normal injection is the go,but not in a D2.
    GOODLUCK

Actually, the other thing, is that you'll need a diesel auto rather than the V8. The diesels are setup to shift differently.

I guess the go may be to gut the D2 and replace everything with D1 kit and then rewire.
