    Defender 03 Radio replacement

    Hi guys,
How do I go about installing a new cd-radio. Is the eath in a Defender '03 model negative or positive and how does this match up with the radios bought in Australia.
Can I rip the original out and just put the new one in?
    Cheer and thanks

The car itself is negative earth.

I think the 2003 Defender has the factory fitted radio (Visteon), not a local Eurovox.
You'd have to remove it (or post a picture) to be sure though.

Trace the wiring back & see if there's an adaptor harness fitted (between the main loom & the radio).
Hopefully there is an adaptor harness which you might be able to use to suit your new CD/Radio. You might even get lucky & find a replacement adaptor harness off the shelf but I doubt it.

    Hi guys,
got some pictures, have not done this before but I guess all I need to get right first time round is the earth, 12v and ignition, the rest I can fiddle around untill they work. unless I can get an adaptor...
    Cheers

It's hard to see from your photo, but if you trace the cable back in you may find another connector cable tied to the dash board structure. The balck plug being one end of an adapter harness that is about 250mm long. The other plug on the main harness may actually fit your radio. Worth looking deeper into the dash!
