Thread: ABS Sensor removal

I don't know if they can be cleaned, the connection on the inner guard can be (early model only)

But if you wanted to try, then i would only recommend doing it with electrical contact cleaner and i would only spray it on and let it dry naturally, i wouldn't touch the sensor at all.

Mine seem to be OK once i had new pads and rotors and the faults cleared, i'm due for new pads again and last weekend i had the ABS/TC lights come on, luckly i reset with the key fixed it, but i will be doing the pads to be on the safe side.

This reset process is in the owners manual and Rave CD.

Well if you have only 2 lights on(sometimes it has worked on 3), it can usually be fixed with a reset.

with the key in the ignition and front door closed

open drivers door

pull key out of ignition and wait (count to 10)

then put key back

close drivers door

restart car, usually the ABS light wont go out until you go over 7kph.

If your lights are still on then it has logged a fault and can only be cleared with a testbook/laptop.

OR disconnect battery for 30 minutes, then reconnect, this has worked sometimes.

It's PITA isn't it, only LR could come up with the 3 amigoes

I know They've been on 4 times in the last 2 days - cleared each time on re-start .

Hate to say it - but if only LR had contracted that side of things out to a supplier from Japan...let's face it, by and large, electronics is something they do pretty damn well. Maybe not perfect, but we probably wouldn't have the 3 amigos!

From my experience with the 3 amigoes, it is related to brake pad type and pad and rotor wear, stay clear of Lucus pads, they seem to be the worst of the pads available for the D2, Bendex, Mintex and genuine are OK, well they have been for me, genuine are expensive though.

I got ABS/TC lights on last weekend, so i checked the pads and sure enough they are down, so i'm changing them this weekend.

easy enough to do,,
(have you read the 3 amigoes post in "The Good Oil"??)
the RAVE cd shows how,,
I'd check each wheel is sending a signal first,,
then if you find a dud, check the sender connections,,
then follow Baz's lead and have a look at the pads.
when they squeal it affects the sensors,,

but I betcha the sender wont be "dirty"

previous owner of my vehicle had pads and discs about 1,500km to fix the amigos but it didnt, after having faults cleared sure enough within a week they came back.

the error was left hand front wheel speed sensor output intermittant.
had Ritter in melb fit a new front wheel speed sensor with a long loom (less links between the sensor and the ECU to fail) and havent had a problem since so id suggest sometimes is it just that the ABS sensor goes.. which is reasonable when you consider they are subjected to the elements down there behind the wheels.

Yep, I think I heard a very faint hint of brake squeel - so I thnk I'll be changing pads. Have no idea what's in there at present as they were in it when I bought it about 10 months ago.
