    td5 engine mounts

are the mounts the same for either side of the car, and are they the same for disco2's and defenders? theres one local to me (used) on ebay and it says that it is for either side/ either car. the pic looks a bit different to what i thought mine looked like.

    Discovery 2 TD5 Engine Mounts

The Landrover part number for the D2 TD5 Engine mount is the same for both sides. KKB102602

There are no aftermarket engine mounts for the TD5 so you have to refit the the Cxxp factory ones back in again. About $280 each I paid for them to probably last another 85,000 k before they are collapsed again. The engine torque especially when chipped and heavy towing seems to have nailed them.

Be well prepared if you are going to change them out yourself. The drivers side one is a bit of a challange for the home mechanic. Make sure the wife/girlfriend or one of your mates is available to crawl under the disco to hold the ring spanner on the bolt head when you do them and have two heavy duty trolley jacks available for use plus be real carefull. If you were to drop the motor with the mount out you would definitely do a lot of damage.

phil you are sort of right. the mounts are the same, but as an assembly each side is different. something to do with a heat shield and the engine bracket.

    Changing TD5 Engine Mounts

Justin Cooper, the switched on and good hearted Landrover mechanic down there in Hobart Town let us have a good tip about looking up from underneath to see where the rubber in the mount hole is. Do a search.

I also posted pictures of the old and new mounts.

I changed them out with my two trolly jacks but a hoist and transmission jack would be the go. Engine hoist would be good also as you need to lift or jack up the motor to clear the threaded bolt on the mount to get the mount out. Make sure you align the positioning lug on top of the mount up in the hole on the engine/mount arm.

Remove the intercooler to EGR valve on the RHS before jacking up and when doing the LHS, intercooler hose on LHS to stop damage. Radiator hoses and everything else surprisingly enough, has plenty of give.

Do it this way and not how it says in the manual or RAVE CD.

This is not a fun job if not in a real workshop but definitely doable for the home machanic. Be prepared to curse the design engineers a lot during the exercise.
