Tdi valve checking sequence
Just as a followup to another thread here's a quick valve checking sequence as lifted from the Haynes book:
0.20mm inlet & exhaust
Valve fully open / Valve to be adjusted
6 / 3
4 / 5
7 / 2
1 / 8
3 / 6
5 / 4
2 / 7
8 / 1
[edit] sorry I can't get it to stay aligned to the spacing I set between each column

Otherwise known as the "Rule of 9".
All of those number pairs add up to 9. i.e. when the number 1 valve is down, adjust number 8, etc...
When I do it, I disconnect the fuel solenoid power and crank the engine on the starter. I just write numbers 1 - 8 on a bit of paper and cross one out when I adjust it.
