Try the Castlemaine Rod Shop for gearbox adaptors, they know a lot.
it wont be an easy mod i can tell you that much, the a518 is based on a 727 but are different internally, you would need to run an adaptor to mate it to to the rr engine (not sure whats different in there but know you cant use bb housing so would be same story for the inter one (what range rovers used), also the extension husing is completely different so you would need to adapt that end too, much easier to go for a th700

Hi Diana,
I have not tried to couple A727 Torqueflite to a LT 230. But a 727 is very strong which I have in my valiant Charger ( 408 cubic inch).
Currently I have developed two adapters to suit T700r4 (4L60E) VN to VS 4 bolt rear extension housing and VT onwards with a 6 bolt rear housing to LT 230 transfer case. I will be testing soon in my 86 rangie. The later model VT onwards adapter will be testing in a comp car with a GEN III
I believe this is the way to go with the lower 1st, 2nd, 3rd. These gearboxes are cheaper to rebuild and can be built to 600 to 700hp.
I will keep you posted on this forum site on the out comes of my testing.
Regards Paul
range rover coupled the 727 to lt230 hence my putting a bigblock in front of it
hey mopar beleive they also made a 929 probly larger but if that will fit go the allison 6 spd.
never heard of it, might be a late model box, considered it but wont need an allison, transfr should let go before the box, they supported 600hp from the factory, can be beefed up to around the 2k mark
904 is a small box, probably what range rover should have used, the 727 is far too large for behind a 3.5
Thanks guys for waking this thread up, it had only been asleep for 18 months, so I must apologise for my not realising it was awake.
Land Rover coupled the Torqueflyte A727 to the LT230 for the 1984/1985 model Range Rover classic. The configuration required a solid front prop shaft to clear the 727 so any box with a wider case or valve body may be a problem. I had one of these models with a 5.0 litre engine based on the P76 4.4 litre coupled to the Tf727 using a high-stall torque converter with a quick change kit (until an auto transmission specialist pulled the valve body apart then said he didn't understand all of the coloured springs so he fitted an original set of springs![]()

). The bigest problem with this transmission was the inability of the torque converter to lock into direct and hence was quite fuel inefficient.
I was hoping that there would be a simple conversion to a 4 speed Tf with locking converter, using the same rear adapter and shaft and the OEM bellhousing to the Rover V8.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
