Talking 300 TDI Intercooler is this normal ???

    Hi one and all

Yesterday got bored and pulled out the radiator and intercooler for a clean/flush. Intercooler looked like it had been in since new and never cleaned. Small amount of oil nothing major. Well gave it a clean flushing as per links located. Whilst flushing it out with water and applying minor pressure located small hole where a stick or other item had touched a core. Dont shoot me down fixed it with 5 min epoxy pressure tested vis calibrated eyeball and garden hose. No more leaks. Any way after allowing to dry out and re fitted, Started up the beast and went for a drive. Can not believe the difference. Great acceleration, I now have a turbo whistle. Would such a small hole have such a negative effect on turbo pressure. The difference is astounding. Have one complaint only got 450ks to half a tank driving around town,

A small hole can make a difference but I would think more noise wise than anything.

It is probably likeing being nice and clean more than anything and you probably tightened up the intercooler hoses etc which with the small hole all may have equated to a large leak meaning lower boost but I doubt it.

You cant measure economy from half a tank, guages are not accurate enough to get a good idea of how much fuel you have used.

to measure economy, fill it to the first click off and drive a set distance and then refill preferably from the same pump and then that will tell you accuratly how many ltrs/kms you have used.

These days economy is measured in ltrs/100kms and this is mostly prefered on this site.
