I've been a keen reader of this forum and unfortunately after work last week I was forced to help out at work delivering a fridge to a customer in my 97 p38.. It was pretty long and I had to leave the tailgate open and take it easy,
I was almost there and then the dreaded beeping and lights flashing.... and now its running on the lowest setting and I think you guys call it "bump stop" with slow 55km on the dash always.
Ive read about so many problems and Ive always taken care to drive it easy and have had no problems for the last 3 years with my suspension until now. Ive tried disconnecting the battery and checking the fuses concerned.
When I switch the motor off I can here from the square compressor box under the hood the sound of air slowly escaping so something must be going in but it sure doesn't feel like it.
My question is, as Im currently working and living on the north shore.
Who do you recommend for me to go and have it diagnosed or maybe with some luck re-set.
I work in Chatswood and I've seen one place in Artarmon whilst searching the net, any thoughts on that?
Cheers .
Your nearest is probably Alto at Artarmon.
However, if you are computer literate and handy with a soldering iron, you could make up a cable to connect your laptop (if it has a serial port) to the diagnostic connector under the passenger side dash and reset it yourself. There are only 4 wires to connect at each end and the parts, including the OBDII connector, are available from Jaycar near you.
Alternatively, if you have a PDA with a serial port, you can install a PDA version onto the PDA and reset it with that (that's what I use). The cable needs a bit more mucking around as you'll need to make a null modem cable.
You can download the Windows version (including instructions) from my webpages:

The cable info is inside one of the PDF files
