    Grrrr! Suspension Knock, Help Needed

    Grrr,

I replaced the radius arm and chassis bushes 2 weeks ago on the RR P38. Went up to Baw Baw and the car was perfect, and tracked beautifully. 2 days later the knock was back .

Symptoms: Knocking on the front footwells over mild bumps and undulations. Even on the new eastlink it comes thru, a firm doonk. The car also tramlines really bad at the same time.

I've tightened the bolts up to the spec'd 250nm, but it's still there. I've also been under with a pinch bar and checked ball joints and all. All Ok

    Any Help,

    Stu

It will probably be one (or more)of the suspension joints - but just because it seems to be at the front does not necessarily mean it is - it could well be transferring the noise from the back, so check all of these as well (and the back ones will affect the steering!). Also check the panhard rod bushes, and make sure that the pitman arm is not loose on the box, and that the steering box is not loose.

The Pitman arm has a tiny bit of play when pushing up, hardly noticeable though. I did find that one of the Anti-Roll Bar ball joints had a noticeable bit of play, wondering whether this could amplify the noise. All other joints seem ok. Will try that and see how it goes, to mt buller tomorrow.

While not going to effect the tramlining, how are the shock bushes?

Shocks all look OK, no movement etc...

Tightening up the Anti Roll Bar joints seems to have helped, but i've only driven it a few k's. But I don't see how that would effect handling. We'll see how we go tomorrow.
