G'day
Been trying to purchase a beam and pointer type torque wrench of the type recommended for tensioning 300tdi timing belt.
Have tried Burstons, Repco, and others to no avail. It appears Warren and Brown did make one but no longer.
Any ideas!!
Thanks
Rob
The supercheap ones are the wrong scale (0-20 kgm). There's no way you can get about 1.4 kgm on those.
Park tools make a nice one in that range available Park Tool Website, and you can get them on ebay occasionally.
I used a fishing scale hooked onto the end of a breaker. A normal good quality torque wrench, and doing it by feel would also have been fine.

I got the complete list from Warren&Brown and they sold about 5 different types of torque wrenches that are the small dial type with a handle. Just different torque ratings.
If they are no longer selling them it is only about two months after providing me the specifications.
They ranged in price from about $280 to $450
What happens when you try buying on-line from their website: Precision hand tools company, Industrial tool equipment supply, Industrial engineering tool, Industrial machine tool ?

Rob,
Try a place called the Bow Tie Garage or Chevrolet Network Australia. Just Google either name and you should be able to get onto his website. He is based in Somerville Vic (where I am) and his prices are reasonable. He stocks a few different brand names (Powerbuilt & Teng to name a few) and he definately stocks Torque wrenches. Give them a call if need be and he may have the specific wrench you want or may be able to get it. Hope that helps.
Cheers
Vinnie
Sorry - I meant using a click type wrench to do it by feel - holding it just before the click. Note the 200Tdi has a higher belt tension than 300.
This guy found a smart way to do it 200TDi timing belt replacementThe fishing scale was a bit awkward for me.

Industrial hand tool, Torque multiplier supply, Soldering equipment supply, Torque wrench supply
These are expensive though as previously mentioned.
When doing my timing belt I used a cheap beam type torque wrench ($20) so far I have done nearly 15000 Km since the change over. I would have expected problems by now if it wasn't right.
