    violent shake -300 tdi disco

Disco 300tdi 1995 I know this subject has been mention before but all attempts to cure it so far have failed..
I have a violent steering wheel wobble when I hit unevenness in the road , so bad I almost loose control. Here’s what I have done to try and cure it.
Totally rebuilt the swivels with all new parts etc preload correct , new steering damper , new drag link and steering bar with new track rod ends , all new ball joints , suspension good , pan hard rod / radius arms and all their bushes in excellent condition , alignment correct , no bent axle, no loose bolts on all of steering gear , wheel bearings new, no play in wheels , no loose wheel nuts etc, tyres good, chassis straight , new brakes discs ,
Has anyone got any idea of what I could check next !

    Hi Taslev.
I dare say you have checked for buckled wheel rims, out of balance wheels and faulty tyres, such as blisters etc?
I suggest you have the caster angle checked, as it sounds like what is often referred to as caster shimmy. This could be caused by bent radius arms etc. (I believe radius arms which provide a different caster angle are available).
    Regards
    Andy.

    hi chaps
no play in steering wheel - i have QT castor raduis arms on the disco , been on for 3 years now the problem started last nov. anyway here;s what i have just done... when i changed the steering damper last december it went away and gradually came back . hence why i went about putting all new stuff on . i have just changed the damper for another new one just now and took it out for a test run , i hit every bump i could find and hard and now there's no shake at all. i hope thats all it was ( $2500 later ) . the damper i bought last dec was a good make and cost $150 , i suspect that its faulty , the new damper expanded when i cut the retaining wire but the one i had on the disco just sat there choose what you did to it. will keep you posted if anything else pops up.
    cheers guys

Standard (factory) hydraulic dampers will sit in any position you leave them in, gas charged dampers will always try to expand. Just wondering if this will cause the truck to track differently (pull to the side). Good to hear it's running better again .
Sad to hear about the lightening of your wallet just because of a faulty damper

I have done all that to my 93 tdi200 disco
found a thread on here last week to check engine mounts.
They look ok but top of engine moves about 2" when reved.
hoping replacing them finally fixes it

the shake is back! thought i nailed it with the damper but hit a slight hump on the motorway and it went berserk ,could hardly hang onto the steering wheel ( speed i was doing was 85k only when i got down to about
30k it stop) but by then the cars behind me were getting nervous.
soon as i got home i went underneath and levered all the bar work and there's no movement at all ( raduis , anti roll , panhard , steering box and arms , chassis good, wheels look good tyres look good etc ) i cant see it been the wheels out of balance as i have not had them done , but i did swap the back to the front to see if it was the problem. im getting short on ideas here , could do with some more advice .

Bugger! I'm wondering if something may be screwy with the power steering box?

If it's not a wheel balance issue (borrow someone elses wheels for a weekend) or a swivel preload issue, then somethings got to have sideways movement, either worn panhard rod bushes or a loose steering box.

have you checked the rear suspension bushes, A arm etc.
