    New Tyres for Disco II

    After reading heaps of threads on tyres for a Dsico II Td5 I took the advice of my very informative mechanic and purchased a new set of BFGoodrich T/A KO's 265/75/16vfor my stock Disco II. They are awsome, lifted the whole car by 33mm whch will help heaps ..... however I had a slight rubbing on the inner plasic guards on full lock. A trip to the mechanic sorted the problem again with some good advice on how to rectify (these tyres are normally seen on Disco II's with Bull bars so have no original front bumper. He noticed that the front bumper was slightly low and back so suggested I loosened the bumper and adjusted. This helped a little but didn't give me emough clearance. My solution is very simple and effective. All I did was reverse the two brackets (LH & RH) and the lower end of the inner plastic guards which pulled the offending peice of plastic back plenty not to foul when on full lock.
    Just wanted to share that experience with anyone who is choosing new tyres for their Disco II. 265/75/16 DO FIT.
    BTW your speedo will be out by about 8% !!!! Be warned.

    Have you tried them off road yet? you might find they rub when flexing but i don't know if they do i'm shore a nice 2" lift will fix it!

    You also affect the fourth speed auto, 80kmh torque converter lock-up threshold. You will still have to reach 80 on the speedo, however you will be actually doing about 86 kmh on the road to achieve this. My tyres make my true road speed out by 5%. The only time it annoys me is when traffic is travelling the "speed limit" of 80 kmh actual road speed, in this case the TC lock doesn't kick in.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

    No I haven't tried them off road yet but my mechanic assures me all will be OK. I hope so as my other 4wd buddies drive Toyo's and they are really waiting to rescue me in the Disco as I've had to rescue them a couple of times. I was thinking of a lift kit but I'm unsure of which way to go and the $'s invilved.

    Speedo. Yes. I'm aware of the speedo being out. As for the gearbox etc again my mechanic has assured me all is OK.

    Slunnie, I have heard of true spped. Are they accurate and easy to fit. Costs? And .... how would you know if it has failed and you are actually going faster than the speedo reads. I use a GPS every now and again to check speed as the last thing I need is a speeding fine.

    What "enhancements" have you made to your D2?

    I'm not sure how you would know if it failed.... I assume you would have no speed show on your dash. They are adjustable, so you turn a screw and it will calibrate your speedo to whatever tyre size you have. There are also 2 tyre size settings if you run 2 sets of tyres - and my engineer at least approved this in my engineering report so that I can run bigger offroad tyres.

    Stewie, basic stuff like 50mm lift kit, dual batt, TJM bar, IPF spots, TJM rack, ARB compressor, LR '04 CDL, Cooper ST tyres, UHF, Milford cargo barrier and rear shelving for ARB/Engel 40L fridge and floor-to-roof storage. An ECM remap will happen when the ext manufacturers warranty is over.....
