TDI TIMING BELT KIT - FROM WHO ?

I'm going to get the belt kit for when i 'm ready to replace the t/belt, i have heard of 2 types of crank pulley 1 that is 1 piece and another that is spot welded together ie 2/3 pieces. So who has the best kit available and how much for ?

    thanks,
    Nick.

Low cost. High quality. They have the good pulley (not that the spot welded one is bad).

I asked about the belt the other day at toorak tractor, Adrian said around $50, my motor has only done 60k so no need for a whole kit.

    Damien,

I've just done a Tdi that had only the belt fitted at it's last change. The tensioner and the idler bearings were shot, and the crank seal was leaking onto the belt. I ALWAYS replace the tensioner, idler, crank seal and sometimnes even the bottom gear if it hasn't been upgraded, is the tin shield variety, or it has a seal groove worn in it. The kit also comes with a new idler stud, a locknut and new cap screw for the tensioner.

That price for the kit is very good, if you were to buy all the bits seperately it would be a whole lot more...

    Not worth the risk.

If it was only 60,000, I'd probably only do the belt. Most vehicles don't even get a belt then.

At 100,000 though, it's well worth doing idler, tensioner, and cam/crank/cover seals too. Note the seals are extra to the kit.

I just did the complete 200,000 change, and everything removed looked new (including spot welded pulley).

    Damien (a different one).
