Philip A in Jabiru tall tales of woe
I dunno how this was posted as a reply to alternator problems even though it is about one.
Well here I am suffering at the Aurora resort at Jabiru.
I wrote last week about the fuel starvation problem I was having.
Bit the bullet at Cooinda and pulled the fuel pump, after emptyiong the car of everything.
Replaced the Bosch pump with the old Rover one then had a look at the Bosch. Lo and behold, Hallelujah. All was revealed.
The sock filter on the bottom of the pump had a small 10mm split along where it joined the collar. This had allowed junk to accumulate in the intake screen of the pump. I used an old sock off a pump assembly that I had bought a couple of years ago as the new one was assymetric and would not fit easily into the swirl tank. I do not know how it was damaged . Maybe I missed it, maybe damaged it on installation.
Anyway now I do not have to drive it like a diesel.
Went into Twin falls yesterday. Through the 45CM deep crossing no worries. Started up afterwards, whoops no voltage on No1 alternator.
So had a look. Looks like just a coincidence as there was no water in it.
Probably the regulator AGAIN on the Bosch 85 amp. Ironic that I chucked the Magneto Marelli to get reliability. The mechanic had no regulators as he had six alternators but no regulators as the regulators stuff up regularly.
So I have bridged the second cheapo Ingram which I have had for about 6 years with no probs to the starting battery as well as the second battery. I will pick up a new Bosch regulator and or alternator in Darwin.
Pains in the **** but no real dramas.
Regards Philip A
