    HELP - Coolant Manifold Outlet

    Hi all,
I posted this into the Discovery chat thread without any resposnse. Any help with the below problem would be greatly appreciated.

I recently noticed on MY03 Disco V8 4.0 that I have a subtle leak originating out of the Manifold Outlet Pipe next the ECT sensor between the rocker covers. I am only loosing about 1 litre a month which is not a problem but it's the corrosion that is taking place on all the bolts around the rocket cover and the sump that has me worried. My question is what is the easiest way to gain access the pipe so I can put a REAL hose clamp on rather than the flimsy crimp type that is currently in place. It appears to be in the most awkward of places where I will either have to remove the Alternator or A/C compressor or both to gain access.
Any help with steps on where to go from start to finish would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Glenn

Not sure which pipe you mean but assume its the metal one? I must have it wrong as you mention the sump!! In my limited experience, the AC and the Alternator do have to come off for almost anything but its very quick to do.

If its the pipe I'm thinking I believe there's a rubber seal inside.

    Hi Mike,
Sorry it has taken longer than expected... especially when the bin lids stole my new camera. Got some photos and look forward to any feedback. Thanks.

    Cheers
    Glenn

The offending leak is coming from the small black hose (you can see the OAT coolant stain) next to the ECT Sensor.

Have done this method before to the same type of problems
Have not done this hose problem on your's tho ....
My theory is "if you see it .... You can fix it"

looks as thou you have to be flexable here
You can buy the standard clamps that have the Hex (bolt) heads

Open it up and fit it to the hose up top ... then use pliers & socket set to start it (rejoined) to be closed .... Feed the now "closed clip" down the hose to where you want to clamp it

Use the quarter?? drive (Those tiny socket drivers) that has screwdriver handle attachment fits to extension bars fits to socket ... to tighten the clip ....as per diagram

Use a screwdriver to hold the clip in place while tightening clip as per diagram

Also a "Super long" nose pliers .... would help here

    Hopefully this helps
(one of these days I'm gonna work out how to paste the picture in the page)

    looks sus.

Mike's fix looks good if you are 100% sure its from there and its caused by the hose fitting. I would be wondering if its something else and checking the area. If its squirting from the temp controller for example. One good belt of the fan nut and it comes undone and then four bolts to move the AC aside will make sure. (obviously the fan belt must be removed also.)

i have the same year as you so let me know of any other odd things.

    Cheers

I would try to squeeze the base of the tensioner with a pair of "front" cutters as opposed to side cutters.
There is a special tool for this but the cutters adjust them well with gentle use.

Thanks for the input Mike 90 RR, Mumbo and PhilipA.
I did plan on replacing the offending hose clamp with a "normal" clamp when I get the that original crimp one off.... it's in such a tight position it's difficult to access.
I've got my Footbal Semi Final's on today but will attack it this afternoon after a couple of cold ones.... you know the old theory, if it does move, get a bigger hammer.....

George130- Thanks for the comment. Considering it's a LR the oil leaks aren't tooooo bad.

I let you all know the easiest way to attack this one when I've completed the job. (probably with a couple more beers and a BIGGGEERR hammer)

    Cheers
    Glenn.
