Thread: RRC Overheating/Leaking

Could be leaking out of the welsh plugs at the back of the motor, then dripping out the breather hole in the bottom of the bellhousing - well that was what mine did anyway.

Problem is why is it leaking there, from my experience either the welsch plugs have rusted/corroded through or possibly there is too much pressure in the system which has forced them out

Garage, or Rangie?

If it's the Rangie, you may have done your heater matrix.


Thermostat housing could be another area to look. Coolant runs to the back of the motor over the valley cover, and down the back of the block. It can damn hard to find the leak too.

Its leaking onto the garage floor, so looking under the RRC I can see the dripping on both sides of the bellhousing, dripping onto the exhaust.

How do I check the welsh plugs?

when my rangie was leaking back there it was a hose on the front and the water was dripping into the valley cover and exiting at the rear, dripping from down around the starter motor.

Is there bubbles in your coolant when the engine is running?

I'm saying that it is highly likely to be a head gasket. Unless you have a severe leak and the water is leaking out completely, the cause of the overheating is hot gas entering the coolant heating it up.
