im wanting to change my defender pitman arm with the joint fixed to the arm . to a disco type where it just uses a tierod end type set up ie no joint as part of the arm can it be done? reasion why is my arm is rooted and cant keep boots on the joint where some one has missed with a hammer and the joints are crap at the best of times .

Yes, use a LH threaded tie rod end, and the Disco1 drag link and pitman arm. The only issue is that your steering damper will have to be re attached to the drag link somehow, as one mounting end of it is currently part of the cast iron pitman arm end bracket of the Defender drag link.

You will have fun getting the arm off, I use a porter power, special 20mm thick jig/puller and occasionally the oxy to take the chill off the arm. When it comes off (the box is normally out, upside down and clamped in a vice), the arm and porter power shoot 6 foot in the air.
