nulon - do they still sell that
I would like the forums feedback on what people think about Nulon as a suitable product for LR's?
It's getting to that time of the year again where I'm giving everything a good flush and injection of clean oils and lubs. I was in my local Auto1 on the weekend looking at the new range of Nulon products that have just hit the market. I've been using their OAT in Radiators for years but have ventured and taken a risk by replacing the Diff's oils on Saturday with their new 85W-140 LSD product. Since this is a new product I will be keeping a very close eye on it's performance and it's ability to properly maintain it's viscosity on my Diff's..
nulon= good stuff...
its been in big reds donk ever since I started doing the servicing after the warrenty ran out... my centrifuge filters are a few grams lighter on removal during servincing and the coolants always been the goods.

I was under the impression that Nulon = Teflon.
Engine re conditioners despise the stuff as it gums up their tools.
Thats all I know of the stuff, but hey, I stand to be corrected.
I am not a big fan of oil additives, however I used to have a workshop Datto 200B hack vehicle that responded well to a litre or two of 80w90 gear oil to stop it blowing smoke.......
Nulon coolants however are pretty good. I used the non Glycol one for some time until I got given a bottle of Redline Waterwetter and havent changed since.
Hymie is right with his reconditioners statement![]()
I think you are right - and wrong. Nulon is a company that was established to market a teflon oil additive. This had the main advantage that in some circumstances it prevented serious engine damage when you run your engine (or other box) without oil - but how often do you do this? In normal use, my impression is that it is no advantage but does no harm except to your wallet (and as you say to reconditioners - I can just imagine what it does to grinding wheels when, for example regrinding a crankshaft!)
But Nulon as a company has, in the last few (probably quite a few) years, branched out into all sorts of other additives, including perfectly respectable ones like coolants. These all have to be considered on their merits, and I doubt it is possible to give an overall for or against on all the company's products. Personally I don't think I have ever used their products, possibly because they are a new name for everything except their oil additive.

I have been using Nulon fully synthetic oil in the engine for a couple of years. It seems to perform as well or better than any other oil I have used. I also use their additive in the diffs and my vehicle has done very high kms in stop start driving with no problems. Cant say for sure whether the additives have helped but they certainly seem to have done no harm.
I lso use Nulon extreme performance grease everywhere including the swivel housings instead of oil with no problems.

so is there evidence/or a case to be made for using it (engine oil additive or treatment) in a vehicle that does a lot of short trips/cold starts to minimise engine wear??
FIL used the gearbox additive in the R380 for years. Really kept the gearbox quiet and silky smooth. Mind you he did use the correct oil when LR said not too.
250000K's and still felt like new. I know of Disco's with less K's that are onto there 3rd box.
