    Charcoal Canister Plumbing.... Classic Rangie

    Hey guys,
    Got a quick question.....
    Can anyone tell me the plumbing setup of the charcoal canister's for the Rangies...
    I have a pic.



    This is what I have. I'm doing a conversion but unsure what to do with the fuel line plumbing.

    It's been a while since it had the old 3.5 in it, and I cannot remember how it was setup.
    Where does it breather come out of the fuel tank ? I can follow a line from the top, middle front (if that makes sense) of the main tank, is that the breather or the return line from the old carbie setup ?
    Did the return line from the old rangie carbies go into the canister ?
    I'm hoping I can get rid of the canister, and just run a return line from the fuel rail on the injected windsor I am putting in it, back to the main tank or surge tank I have.

    Has anyone done somthing similar before ?

    In the absence of anyone else - you won't be able to use it. Use the ford setup or one from an injected LR V8. You are going to have to build separate high pressure and return lines from your (new) fuel pump anyway. Just to refresh your memory, vent from the tank goes to the vapour seperator behind the fuel filler, then to the charcoal canister. Might be an idea to raid an injected Rangie for the fuel lines and tank/pump - might save a lot of fabrication.

    You require 3 existing lines from the tank, 1 feed, 1 return and 1 vapour, the vapour line runs to the can, the other 2 are the fuel system

    You will require a surge tank with a non EFI tank and external pump, you utilise the standard pump as the supply pump, your surge tank will (should) have 4 fitting, one on the very bottom, 2 near the top and one on the very top, they require hooking up as follows

    Bottom, to high pressure pump, feeding fuel rail
    near top 1, return from fuel rail
    near top 2, feed from supply pump
    Very top, return to fuel tank

    The vapour line from the fuel tank will fit the can in the T for tank port, you will then hook up the P for purge to the factory Ford ECU controlled purge solenoid and block off the C for carburrameter

    Oh, If you don;t won;t to be legite, simply vent the tank to atmosphere and block the purge solenoid port, or use it for a vac port on the motor

    Hi Rovercare,
    Yeah mate, you did answer some of this already with the P T C,
    But until I had another good look tonight, I could only find 2 line from the main tank, 1 to feed the rangie fuel pump, the other which I wasn't sure if it was for the venting or the return line....... But I found the other hose, So I think I'm sorted.
    I have a surge tank mounted on the pasenger side, currenty it only has 3 outlets, 1 for feed (using the standard rangie pump for that) one for supply to the engine via a bosch 070, and the other I was going to use for the return from the fuel rail, but I'm thinking i might have to put in an overflow from the surge tank back to the main tank. Otherwise the rangie pump may cause cavitation and maybe heat up the fuel......
    Will have to sus out the purge valve on the falcon motor, will start by trying to find where the hell it is Failing that, might have to turf it over the left shoulder But, I will be getting this thing engeering and approved, so they (transport) might pick up on that.
