Thread: TD5 and oil leaks...

yes i know its a landrover so it should leak, but i have a leak that seems to be getting worse.

I have stripped all the plastic covers off the engine and it looks like the rocker cover gasket is leaking weeping all around and also leaking at the 'd' section at the back. the plastic cover is a little saturated! the timing chain cover plug thing at the front also has a shot seal so is dribbling oil out from being splashed with oil from the timing chain.

anyway... i have ordered the parts and i cleaned the engine down with 4 cans of degreaser and a hose. all was clean and dry.. drove it into work and it seems to be leaking more than ever now

i know its weeping at the back still but cant decide if it also leaking out of the bell housing as there are 3 "D" shaped holes at the bottom and it looks like it is coming out of there. or... the oil is dribbling down the engine (moreso now the plastic / foam cover isnt there) and while driving its being blown into the hole which makes it look like its leaking from there.

where else could it be leaking from? could it be the rear main seal and is there any way of finding out? if it is the rear main... what sort of time / dollars would it be to get fixed as i dont think i have the equipment / time to sort it.

i know its like chasing your tail trying to stop the leaks.. but i dont like seeing a puddle underneath..
