Rear and front caliper on Defender - Confused

    Hi all,

I am overhauled all four the calipers on my '94 Defender but I started the job in May and have moved house in between so can't remember how they go on. I seem to be missing a bracket at the rear and the brake fluid pipe fittings in front don't make sense.

If anybody has some photo's, suggestions or detailed steps how to fit, that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thx

I went to have a look at a friend's '05 Defender but it seems as though the rear brake setup has been changed since 1994 so that didn't help.

I have a horseshoe shaped bracket that is obviously used to bolt the caliper and the mudshield to but I don't know how to bolt that bracket to the rear axle / Diff housing. There does not seem to be any brackets to which this can be bolted.

    Please help

Although I own a Disco, I was looking thru the EPC and it appears that the horseshoe bracket bolts directly to the axle flange the stub bolts to. You should have two bolts that are longer than the others to account for it. It's a leftover from the drum brake axles. The horseshoe bit is an adapter. In my Disco the mudshield fits between the caliper and the mount, secured when you bolt it together, I'm presuming that it's the same for your defender. As to the front brakes, post a pic as to what doesn't seem right.

Oops, so let me get this straight. The five bolts that hold the disc to the axle should have two bolts which are longer than the rest that is supposed to hold the horseshoe bracket?

All the bolts seems equal in length.

If everything is assembled except for the calipers, which parts do I need to remove to fit this bracket.

How would I know at which angle to fix this bracket seeing as there being 5 bolts thus 5 different angles. ( I know the caliper needs to be to the rear so only 3 possible angles but which one)

Lastly, which way around should the horseshoe bracket go? The one side is flat and the other has a 1-2cm protruding edge.

If anybody has photo's of a rear caliper fitted on a 1994 Defender that would be great.

The "horseshoe Bracket" bolts on with the stub axle to the axle housing, NOT the disk

The hub needs to come off and two of the bolts bolting the stub to housing need to come out, these are the ones that hold the bracket

The top/front bolt of the bracket is just behind the axle centre line and the steel brake line goes straight up (and in a bit)

The protruding edge goes inward and the calliper bolts to this.

I'll take a few of my 1995. PM me your email address, that will save me the learning cerve of posting to the forum.

Sounds like you need to get yourself a copy of the Rave manual, you can get it through AULRO.

    Hope this helps
