Springs again... LRA or OE for RRC?

    Hi folks,

The previous owner of my 89 RR put disco springs in the front and heavy duty spings in the rear with a purple mark (LRA 220lb ?). The rear currently sits about 1" higher than the front. He did this because he said he was concerned about body roll. I find the ride too harsh.

OE springs (set of 4) are less than $100 dearer than LRA springs once landed in Perth, and I've heard comments that they are the most compliant and are well made.

My '89 is bog standard (no bull bar, etc). I occasionally tow using a WDH and I have polyairs if I need them. I don’t want a lift - standard height should be fine.

So do you think the ride of the OE springs over the LRA springs (maybe blue 160lb in the front, orange 180lb in the rear) are worth the extra $$$ ??

Shame your not local, I have a STACK of standard springs, you could of mixed and matched till your hearts content

I wouldn't BUY standard new springs, just get some from someone who has put in a lift

What sort of shocks are on it? If valved to hard they will make a very choppy ride. If your going OEM the boge shocks are fine.

    Thanks guys,
The shocks are Koni's. And the ride IS choppy. However I thought the Koni's were softer than Billies, not sure about the boge ones thou.

Koni are adjustable. Undo one end, fully extend the shock and turn till you feel a click then twist. There is 3 settings. Soft... Med... Hard. Try this before changing springs.
Try linkhttp://www.koni.com/ should be instuctions there.

If you are happy with the ride just make spacers up (Between housing and spring retainer, use longer bolts) for rear so sits level

Personally, I think OE RRC springs are too soft for Australia. The fronts at 133Lb per inch bottom very easily., and the rears at 160Lb depend a lot on the load leveller. Mine were still correct length, but the leveller pumped it up about 10-20MM once going a Km or so.

I think the LRA blues would be good as they are about the LR RRC HD spec, and a bit shorter than using OE rears (green), which give 40MM lift and no castor. The orange rears would also be good as long as your load leveller is working. It will be up in the rear 30-40MM with those springs however. It is usual to have blue fronts and red rear or green front and orange rears.
I have LRA green on the front of my 92, which lifts about 15MM ( they are 15.7 or 8 not 16.1 . I just had quite a "discussion" with LRA over this and in the end they agreed and swapped the wrongly painted (blue instead of red)springs they had sent. They changed this a few years ago )I have orange on the back.
I also have airbags on the back now for towing.
    Regards Philip A
