Unknown Engine Part on Defender and More

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for everybody’s help with the brake calipers, I’ve managed to finish the job today. I’m onto the engine next and had a quick look today. I have taken some pics and was wondering whether anybody had any thoughts on the following:

    1. Could anybody identify the item in the pic. It is situated on the right hand side of the engine just left of the oil filter. There seems to be a leak where this bolts on. Further, the previous owner siliconed this part, so don’t know why this would have been necessary.

    2. Secondly, there is a small switch that has obviously broken off and I think it should bolt on close to the oil filter. Does anybody know what it is called, probably some sort of censor.

    3. The bolts that hold the airfilter down seems to have broken off ,four of them. Where can I get those 4 fittings from?

    4. Where can I get the rubbers used for the door seals and also the rubbers used for the rear sliding windows?

    5. Any idea as to the best place to pick up used defender doors?

    6. Lastly, what are all the service items on the Defender and what are all the parts I should buy in the week to change the timing belt over the wekend i.e. pulleys etc.

PS. The websit ewon't allow me to upload the pics because of a size limiyt. I will attach them later.

    Thx

    URGENT

    Hi everyone,

Does anybody have some more info on this post?

I can't seem to get the photos uploaded onto the site so disregard those questions.

I would still be very keen to hear from you about the below questions seeing as I need to order all the parts to have it before the long weekend so I can get stuck in.

    4. Where can I get the rubbers used for the door seals and also the rubbers used for the rear sliding windows?

    5. Any idea as to the best place to pick up used defender doors?

    6. Who, except for Land Rover supplies the rear sliding window glass?

    7. Where can I get white touch-up paint for my Landy?

    8. What type of glue is used to stick the interior roof liner to the roof and where can I get this?

    9. Lastly, what are all the service items on the Defender and what are all the parts I should buy in the week to change the timing belt over the wekend i.e. pulleys etc.

    Thx

1/ My guess is vacuum pump for servo assist. they leak some people silicone em up.
2/ Oil pressure switch, tells the idiot light on the dash to come on just as your 300tdi lunches itself due to lack of oil. Can replace switch or buy a VDO T-piece and oil pressure sensor and gauge to monitor engine oil pressure.
3/ Just realised 1994 may not be a 300tdi? if it is a 300 then the bolts for the air filter bracket are head bolts? need a picture for that one.
4/door seal rubber from any rubber supply, Jenkins Rubber in Cairns stocks it
as for the windows - do a search i remember it has been answered on AULRO.
5/doors dont know in sydenhole... someone will
6/its just flat glass, run it by a glazier?
7/Is the touch up paint to stop the panels from rusting thats why you bought a fender wasnt it.
8/use plastic upholstery studs, does the job quick and easy.
9/if its a 300tdi of unkown service history I would get a major timing belt kit. Belt, Crank gear, idler, tensioner, cam and crank seal... youll need timing pin and flywheel lock and maybe a puller for the crank pulley.

    have fun.

I agree with Roverrescue on item 1.
Sounds like the Vacuum pump. A non serviceable item or so we are led to believe. Easy to unbolt, drill out the rivets and then silicone a gasket and get some small bolts and bolt back together where the rivets were.
Item 4 I would try Clarke rubber or similar, they normally have a range of car door seals and maybe able to help with the channel as well for the rear window.
Item 9 RAVE CD, Case of beer, band aids and grease remover to wash up with afterwards.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
    cheers

Land Vehicle Spares at Silverdale, would be one place.

Try Land Vehicle Spares at Silverdale - I know they have some, but check if yours are 4mm or 5mm glass, and there is a difference between earlier and later Defenders in glass shape (changed around 2000) - I know I've just been through it.

Try using Selleys Quik Grip or any decent contact adhesive, I personally would stay away from the spray contacts, but some have had success with them.
