Need servicing advice from the gurus!

I just have a couple of servicing queries for you Landy Gurus out there.

Here's the scoop: I bought an '03 Disco a couple of weeks ago that has 85000kms on the clock. The bloke I bought it off had lost the manual, but he'd done a ring around for receipts etc. and so I could see that it had been serviced regularly by Land Rover... That is, except for the major 80000km service, which he seems to have shirked, and had done by RAC instead. From what I can gather, they've only done the basic stuff like changed the oil etc.

So my question is this: how critical is it to get the extra stuff done, like ensuring the brakes have been flushed, and the intercooler cleaned etc.? Is it safe to wait until the next service? Or should I have it checked out ASAP? .. Or, could I even do those things myself? I have a reasonable mechanical aptitude and the RAVE CD, but limited tools.

This is my first 4wd, and I'm stoked to have a Landy, but it seems like they take a bit of getting to know! Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

The brake flush would have to be done with a workshop that has testbook - apparently, I would not recommend trying it yourself, and I am sure you would be safe to wait till the next service for that. Brakes working okay ??

But cleaning an intercooler should be quite straight forward. That's certainly a DIY project.

Yeah, the brakes are fine, except for an occasional groaning from that general direction on start up, but I read in another thread that that is fairly normal?

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely have a go at cleaning the intercooler; I've been hanging out to get my hands dirty!

    Ticka,

The 80K service is important, Brake fluid, Auto trans service, and all driveline oils need changing at this interval. We also flush cooling system and replace coolant at this time.

(We don't use testbook etc to flush brake fluids, pumping it through the ABS modulator is fine, but make sure it NEVER runs out of fluid!)

Every 40K these oils etc must be done.

At 120K the ACE (if you have it), req servicing/ filter change and fluid flush. This is a job for testbook to enable all the air to be flushed from the system.

I would also recommend checking the oil pump drive bolt.
