Washed down (with care) the D2 V8 many times under bonnet and up under transfer case after beach work and salt water crossings...never ever had an issue. The coil packs on the D2 are a bitch to get at...but the water in crossings dont get to them either. I dont hose down there, but then again sand does not get there, and nothing to rust.
Cheers

Repco had a sale on Degreaser Cans, so I got 1/2 doz.
Spayed the motor Box Case, diffs etc. top to bottom. Then put the hose on it full tit for about 30 mints, making sure I got every thing hosed off and water every where.
Jumped in, poked the key in and turned it and ALL the LIGHTS came ON!!!!!
Then I started it, first flick.
