Today I carefully and concientiously serviced and checked a 2006 TdV6 S.
I was careful to ensure all procedures were adhered to.
I used synthetic 5w40 oil and genuine filters, including an incredibly expensive fuel filter that came with its own fitting instruction booklet!
I filled out and stamped the service booklet.
I replaced a brake lamp globe.
Then...
I washed the engine and the engine compartment down.
I used a mild detergent and the firehose on about 3/4 strength.
The engine covers etc were all on, as I only wanted to shift the dust and fingerprints off.
Now, I have every warning lamp on the dash including trans fault, EBD, ETC, hilldecent, etc etc etc . and it is stuck in limp mode in 2nd gear.
I want to scream.
How can these vehicles be sold as 4x4's??? What would happen in a reasonably deep river crossing???
I love driving them, I love the gearbox and that grunty V6 diesel. But this has IMMEDIATELY, totally turned me off them as a true outback tough vehicle.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Pop a TD5 in it. I drown mine in water after every trip the beach and I don't have any lights other than usual ones![]()
2005 Defender 110
They are not outback vehicles!!!!!
They were intended for the UK where there is a dealer every 15miles.
Apart from us nutters who think land rovers are the only vehicle worth driving, no one in their right mind would take one in the outback.
they simply do not have what it takes.
Reliability!!!!!!!!
Come to think of it, no new car is suited for the outback, too much electric gizmos stuff crammed under the hood.
Basic defender. land-cruiser or falcon is the way.
IMHO
Your experience today says it all.
Electrics are fickle, too fickle.
I still want a D3 though.
I leave it in the shed when it rains.
I'll put money on it that they didnt put a connector together properly ex factory and the seal leaked...
Sorry to hear.
Keep us posted.

Thanks all, Vehicle is in my driveway with the engine covers off as we speak, I'm hoping by the morning it would've dried out as I have to pick the owner up in it on the way to dropping the eldest to school.
I might sneak out at 1am to see if it is OK, It's going to be a sleepless night I can tell
Electronics, and there is no 'Lucas' anywhere to be seen in this vehicle either!!

Makes me wonder if they don't lubricate O rings on plugs on some of them. There is a D3 here that does deep water often. So they are not all bad.
Sad to here this so often as are an awsome 4x4 when going.
