    Axles and C.V's

As I've said in a previous Thread I am upgrading my Diffs and Axles to 24 spline.

I've got a set of rear Hi Tough Engineering Axles arriving on Monday, hopefully. I'm planning on getting a set of LongTracks front Axles and C.V's from Keith at Rover Tracks, but he currently does not have any and won't do until the end of the year. I can't really justify purchasing the Ashcroft C.V's at 1200 a pop and then another 7-800 for axles.

So I have a set of standard 24 spline front axles and C.V's from a 1995 Disco. Will these fit my 91 Disco?

    TIA

    Dannie

G'day, I think that the axles won't fit into the diff. I'm not entirely sure but I think it'll have to be a complete diff swap. AFAIK the housings won't be a problem, just where the parts go together.
Somebody please tell me if I'm wrong.

I would stick with your existing front axles until the rovertracks arrive. I doubt much advantage with stock 24 spline front axles as they are small and weak where they step down for the weak cv.

That's the problem I have, my current diff/axles are 10 spline. So seeing as I have the 24 spline front axles sitting in the shed I thought I might be able to throw these on in the mid term.

    Your changeing the centre right??

24 spline axles won't fit a 10 spline diff centre

If your putting in a 24 spline centre, the 24 spline axles will fit

That's not the end I'm concerned about, more the other end where the axle fits to the drive flange??

I'm guessing I will have to change these either side?

They don't go into the drive flange they fit into the CV

Which as standard will be 32 spline CV/inner side, so shouldn;t be an issue

Why don't you explain more clearly, just what it is you are doing/have done. There may be some confusion here.

For example 24 spline axle can be taken to have many meanings.

Are you planning to fit complete 24 spline axles assemblies? Or fit 24 spline axle shafts and diff centres into your 10 spline housings?

When discos changed to 24 spline axles, they also changed to shorter spindles and hubs. And went to weaker axles shafts and cv's.

You can't fit stock 24 spline axles and cv's into a 10 spline assembly (and it would be silly anyway, if you intend to fit upgraded axles from rover tracks in a couple of months). But you can fit custom 24 spline (and larger) axles and better cv's to either - just a matter of selecting appropriate parts.

As I understand it, Siska has a stock 1991 front end in his vehicle atm.

Are these 23 or 32 spline at the CV end of the inner axle???

He also has a complete? 1995 front end, and a 24spl locker. (both not installed).

I think he wants to know what the best front setup would be, to run (temporarily), until the rovertracks replacement CVs and axles arrive.

wasnt it proven that OEM 24 spline were breaking before OEM 10 spline axles due to the material used.............

all in all its a bit of a moot point oem v oem
