    CHOPPING FUEL LINES

I am thinking about chopping the fuel lines on my D2 V8. I have a Long range tank with a few Issues, and LPG tank in the back that stops me getting at the Fuel Sender access hatch. So what i thought might be a good idea is to Chop the fuel lines near the tank and just put a joiner in there to meake getting the tanks in and out a bit easier....

What are the fuel lines made from and can anyone with a good knowledge of this stuff help with a very good solution to cutting and then joining the lines!

    I wouldn't.
The feed line is high pressure, and I had to tighten up my normal joint a lot to stop a leak. A D2 has the regulator in the tank so should be only one line.
It is a Nylon material on earlier models so probably still is.

Hi, I broke a fuel fitting on a Defender near the pump a few years ago and made a sucessful joint using the old fashion brass olive fittings to rejoin the line. No problems since. You can get these at ENZED or PIRTEK or similar outlets.

Does anyone know what the Exact Term for the type of Fuel Line we are talking here is, becuase i am thinking that rather than cutting the lines I may just have a 1 metre extension Made up with a connector. I have Ordered a new Fuel Pump, so if I attach the shorter lines to it which would give me more room to fit the tanks!!!!!!! and just coil the old Lines into a secure bundle... Bush Mechanics please Help!

On the diesos its a hard PolyUrethane Tube in 8 and 10mm (supply / return) I believe. 5/16 and 3/8 olives and compression fittings seem to work okay on this stuff.

Not sure on the petrols but assumption is the source of all error

The Fuel lines are pretty hard, what if I just chop em, and then push EFI Fuel line over the top of the joint and then double clamp it off....?

i think that under the EFI pressure you may come a guster... ive done it with a dieso but spily diesel is only hazardous for donor cycle riders... not the same with pettie... at least the V8 would starve out so you could watch the fuel gushing out of the tank!

Olives and compression fittings are pretty cheap... if you wanna use fuel line get a compression fitting to barb and then clamp onto the barb fitting.

    my opinion anyways

The compression fittings ive used are essentially in three parts. A male threaded fitting which goes to say a hose barb. The olive is brass and olive shaped with a hole through the centre the OD of the tube you are fitting, then the compression is a fitting with female threads to the male fitting, which goes over the olive with the tube running through it. As the thread is tightened it compresses the brass olive which clamps onto the tube and deforms it to seal.... go to ENZED ask em... they will have it. put the verniers over the tube you are going to cut first...
