Big tyres for my Disco 1

    Hey everyone,

i have been looking at buying some big muddies for my disco 1 lately and have been told that the biggest i can fit on it is a 245/75R16. i wanted to go bigger but got told that the tyres will rub when i turn on the inside of the wheel arch on this bar (i'm not sure what it is). The tyres will be going on 16 inch rims obviously and the car has a 2 inch suspension lift. Any ideas what my limits are or what i have to do to make bigger ones fit? i am willing to cut at the body

    Thanks, Shamo

Work backwards from what size tyre you want to run as that, and your wallet will determine what changes you have to make.

You can go to 32" tyres without a whole lot of effort. You need to trim the rear wheel arch in what is called a 'camel cut' (plenty of info if you do a search). I currently have 235/85s and have had no issues with reduced steering lock.

I've just put 245/75 M/T's on mine and they rub slightly on the radius arms. You can adjust your steering stops quite easily to prevent this. Also you will probably have to cut the inside of your rear guards and bend the lip in to prevent rubbing there too. I have a 2" lift and mine just caught on the guards on full articulation before I did the guard cut.

I have run 33" x 10.5 BFG MT and 265R75 MTZ on mine. Rear of front and rear guards needed trimming. And yes the fronts will rub against the radius arms - so you loose some turning circle.

Hi mate, i am in the same boat as PeterM, i am running 235/85/16's, i have a 2in lift (all be it somewhat sagged now) and have had to trim the gaurds at the rear to make them fit. I also found that i needed to trim a small amount from the rear of the front gaurds aswell, mainly because the tyres were catching the plastic sill protector. Matt
