    CD unit change over

Hi, not a very exiting one this time.

Before I go and buy a new car stereo and loose the security code for the original, are there any tips to getting the old one out?

Are the fittings at the back standard, or do I need to be careful what stereo I get?

    This is for a 1998 D1.

Disco 1 and 2 use ISO pattern plugs. So buy your new deck, and then buy an Aerpro adaptor to suit. For example, I just put new Sony units in both of mine. I bought an Aerpro Sony to ISO adaptor, and it just all plugs together! The adaptors are around $15. Took longer to decide on which unit! Depending on which style of unit you have will depend on the method of extraction of stereo, but they are both easy. If it has 2 holes at either end, some 4 inch lengths of straight wire coat hanger pushed into them will release it. If it has a slot at either end, the replacement deck will likely come with some bits of flat steel which should help. Otherwise the metal strip off a filing cabinet file folder work well. Push them in and ease the unit out of the dash.
