    Pinion Bearings

As some of you know I'm upgrading my Diffs/Axles etc.

I had a search of the site for the pinion bearing numbers and came up with this,

    and this,

Ok I thought both part numbers are the same, so I headed off down to a bearing shop. I had no problems with the yoke side, bearing cone HM88046 and the cup a HM88010.
But the gear side bearing was a different story. The bloke thought I had the numbers mixed up (he thought it might have been HM801463 I think it was) so asked me to come home and double check. So I looked up on the site again and came up with the same numbers. Having a spare pinion with bearing attached in the garage (which is no good to me) I thought I would go and remove that and see what the numbers were on that. The serial number on that was HM801436X

I rang up the bearing shop and they told me that that is a different bearing again.

So which is the correct bearing? HM801436, HM801436X or HM801463?? I'm guessing it would be one of the first two, just want to confirm which.

    TIA
    Dannie

    Hi Dannie,

If you can post the precise details of your diff, i:e Rangie, Disco, 10 spline, 24 spline, etc I will post the bearing sizes for you.
There are a few variations and pinion bearings are dear as poison.
    Cheers

    Thanks Wayne.

I have a 24 Spline Detroit Locker, Ashcroft 4.11 Crown Wheel and Pinion fitting into a 1995 Disco housing. The HM801436X came from the standard 1995 pinion.

Ok, I'm not 100% on this, but the bearings are usually:
    Carrier - 102949 with a 11 cup
    Small Pinion - 88046 with a 10 cup
Large pinion is as you have posted, the X stands for the radius. Most bearing supply houses do not carry it as stock (expensive because of the radius) They will however carry the 801346. This is without the radius so you will have to machine the bearing to suit the pinion radius.

    Hope this helps
    Cheers
