    V6 Freelanders?

Just doing some research and was wondering if anyone can give me some good honest feedback on the v6 freelanders. I know the 1.8L petrol is a nightmare and the Diesel is the pick of the bunch but was browsing on carsales and stuff earlier and there are alot of cheap v6 freelanders around. Is this for a reason? Are they overly thirsty on the juice?

The interior cubby box is to small to hold a jam jar full of nuts

    The engine is not indestructable.

    you deserve one.

They are pretty thirsty and I believe the engine can suffer the same slipped liner fault that 1.8 petrols have.

Thanks BigJon i had read that they were pretty thirsty, but hadnt heard to much about how the engine went for reliability.

Was it DionM that had one for a while? Would be interested to hear your comments on how you found it mate. Matt

    Ace,

The liner problem is a biggy, I wouldnt chance it happening as the repair $$ are more than the vehicle is worth
Also, they seem to suffer from loose intake manifold butterfly valves, that sounds like a rattle in the top end at idle. This is repairable only by replacing the intake manifold assembly, or getting a modded exchange one, TRS in Adelaide do them at about 50% of new price. I have fitted 2 of them and have been fine.

I would'nt recommend buying one when for a little more $ you can have a Td4version. They are a way better vehicle.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

thanks mate, i figured that might be the case. I havent really heard anything bad about the Td4 models, which is probably why there arent many around for sale. They are hard to pick up second hand. Im not really in the market for one at the moment, was just curious. Stacey's car will need upgrading eventually and she saw one today and said they looked alright. Matt

A common problem for the TD4 is that the injectors may become frozen in the head, making life difficult upon servicing or replacement.

I have a 2001 V6 freelander and i dont think it is thirsty, i use a tank a week ($65.00 average cost to fill).
However I am told by my mechanic that after about 110,000 km the hoses become brittle etc and worth getting rid off then. I am not sure how to overcome this problem because i think the car has a bit of grunt for its size and is is robust.
I have had myne about 6 months now and unfortunately had to replace the fuel pump ($1600) and at 100 000km is due the timing belt ($1100). I think the parts are expensive compared to japanese brand cars.
    regards
    Penny

Thanks Penny, much appreciated. How many km's would you say that $65 get you?
