I used to work with a lady who new little about cars.
When she bought an old corolla she was told to "top up the oil from time to time."
So next time she fuelled it up she also "topped up the oil" - to the brim!
Lasted about 100km - I surprised it even run. Spewed out oil all over the place. Then died an oily, smokey death.

I said "Didn't you check the dipstick?"
She said "What's a dipstick?":Thump:

Mitsubishi factory tolerences are 1litre every 2k,before they will look at the engine.We had XF ,XE,&XD falcon vans years ago,and 1 litre every 1000 kwas acceptable so Ford said.

The 200 series diesels are using oil at a fare rate,would be interesting to know what there tolerances are.

Gen 3 v8 in the duny dores also used a fair bit of oil.

Driving style can make a big difference to oil usage,as does the type of work the vehicle does.

Sump capacity may also come into the equation


In Landrovers defence,have never had a TD5 that used any oil.:)


Personally,i hate having vehicles that use any oil betwen services:(
particularly with employees driving them as it is one thing that seems to get forgotten:( & is never checked.At least mitsy vans have an oil level light
