Bleed screw on radiator top hose - Series 2 TD5

Is it possible to buy a new bleeder screw only for the top radiator hose on a series 2 TD5?

On a trip recently we stopped at morning tea and I gave the car a good look over - I noticed a small amount of coolant leaking out of the bleed screw on the radiator top hose. I touched the screw pretty lightly and the head fell off the screw.

The body of the screw stayed in and the leak is quite minimal - we made it home no problem.

The whole cooling system was redone just on 12 months ago, so I am suprised the screw has not lasted longer! I will order a new hose in its entirety, but thought if I could get a new screw I could keep the older hose as a backup.

I was thinking of ordering a complete set of new hoses - I had trouble 12 months ago with the cooling system on a trip up the Stuart Hwy and swore I would carry a set of spare hoses in the future. Never got around to getting any so far ... what sort of spares do guys carry? Is it over the top to have a complete set??

Get yourself the water level sensor and kit...

Comes with a brass screw and costs less than a hose! (Well almost)

Plus it has the benefit, it could save your engine and your wallet

    Hi Tombie,

Is there a water sensor kit especially for Disco TD5 which includes replacement bleed screw?
Please send details of where to buy.

    Thanks..bruiser

Check out this webpage - Engine Saver Land Rover Page

At $190 this is good insurance. I am ordering one shortly...maybe we should try a group buy to see if we can save some cash?

    Cheers

Yeah, personally I would not bother replacing it with a standard plastic item. The brass ones are only 10-15 dollars (probably cheaper than the LR one) and will not break.

The new Enginsaver ones are plastic, but a special aerospace plastic designed to last a VERY long time. The stuff the original ones are made from has a service life of 7 years.Engine Saver isnt doing the brass ones anymore, too hard to stop the conductivity between the inner and outer hose material which stops the sensor working. How do I know???? I and another member ran the test sensors for David the owner(Davy is his username)
The new plastic sensor is also much stronger than the original Landrover bleed screw as it has a stainless steel sensor tapped into it.
McDisco, you should find that AULRO members already are getting a $30 discount in the price.
Contact David thru his website or PM him(Davy).

Thanks Andrew, already onto it. Dave has kindly offered a group price of $155 for the unit which is normally $190. This is based on a group buy of $10 units.

But if you want to order direct from Dave it is $160. For the price of the extra postage to do a group buy and then send them out, you might as well buy it direct.

    Thats a good discount though!

I think the one he means is the little one in the top rad hose of a D2 Td5.

You normally have to buy a new hose to get one, but I have one kicking around in the tool box if you want it.

PM me with postal address and I'll bung it in an envelope.

edit, Doh, that IS the one he means! Serves me right for 'skim' reading!
